If you are planning to break up with your boyfriend by sending him a letter, this is perhaps not a very good idea. Breaking up though a letter or a call or even sometimes though a text message is really impersonal and rude.
After all, you have spent a lot of good time with this person and you loved him. Therefore, you at least owe him a direct face-to-face meeting where you tell him about the decision to break up.
However, writing him a letter can be a very good idea if you want to explain to him why you took the decision. If you feel that he is confused about the whole thing, you can clarify the situation by writing him a letter that talks about your feelings.
Again, if you feel that there is no way you can allow yourself to break up with your boyfriend in public, then you can go ahead and write him the break up letter.
You will find that sometimes when the man cannot accept the fact that the relationship is over, a break up letter can make things more real for him. Break up letters with everything in place makes the fact of the breakup more tangible – now he cannot allow himself to deny the fact of the break up and he cannot tell himself that he must have misunderstood your intentions when you told him about your decision to break up.
The mistakes you should avoid
A break up letter is something that your boyfriend will read and re-read again and again. Thus, make sure that you choose words correctly. It will be a good idea if you write the letter and then set it aside for sometime. When you go back to it again, you will find that your letter will require certain changes.
Remember that you are writing this letter to explain to your ex about what you felt went wrong with the relationship. So, do not blame him too much in the letter and do not keep writing pages after pages about your complaints. Just mentioning his fault in a line should be enough.
You should be honest in your letter to your ex. However, at the same time, remember that you should not write anything in the letter, which you do not want anyone else to know about or read. After all, the letter that you give to your ex maybe read by anyone. You do not know what he is going to do with your letter. Therefore, if you do not want your letter to be read by his family or his friends, make sure that you eliminate any references, which makes you uncomfortable.
If you are a bit uncertain about how your letter sounds, ask a friend or a family member to read it. However, make sure that you trust the person. Finally, remember that a breakup letter should be about expressing your feeling and about making your decision final – do not use it to hurt your ex further.
