Ask anyone who has faced a breakup in their life and they will tell you that a broken heart is the hardest thing in the world to mend.

It may sound corny, but if you are presently going through the same process of heartbreak, you would know what they mean and agree to them whole-heartedly.

Often when you are in a relationship for a long time, you might grow the tendency of taking your relationship for granted.

However, the moment the prospect of a break up stares you in the face, you realize how devastating it shall be for you. Unfortunately, for you the bitter truth is that relationships, even the ones you thought were going smoothly can come to an abrupt end.

So how do you get over the constant pain and suffering that you are going through? No matter how impossible it may sound to you right now, the huge hole that seems to have been cut through in your heart shall eventually heal. Though you might never forget the pain that you once went through, time shall eventually take away the bite.

Unfortunately, there are no magic potions to help you with the pain and heal your heart in a jiffy. You shall have to let your nature and time take its own course in your endeavor to get over the pain.

Do not overdo the wallowing

After the heart-wrenching break up, you shall face a storm of emotions that shall visit you at the oddest of moments without rhyme or reason. One moment you shall feel calm and collected – happy even – and the next moment you shall feel like crying your eyes out.

Anger mixed with sadness, shame mixed with confusion is just a few of the emotions that you shall go though. However, after a time, you need to put a reign to your feelings.

This does not mean that you should keep your feelings bottled up and hide your pain. It simply means that after a point of time, you need to control your emotions. You should not let yourself wallow in self-pity for long periods.

When the feeling of helplessness strikes you, let yourself go for about five minutes. But collect yourself after that. Do not allow yourself to have a “pity party” for too long.

Stay busy and go out with friends

The company that you keep forms an important aspect that shall help you to heal your broken heart. To mend your heart, you must keep yourself fruitfully engaged in things that interest you. If you give your mind a lot of idle time to think, it will probably want to think about your break up. This shall most definitely not be conducive to the healing process.

So, even if you do not feel like going out, pull yourself out of the sloth and go out and enjoy with your friends – meet new people, make new friends. Cultivating new interests is also going to work towards your healing.

Truly, the happiness that you received while you were in the relationship seems to have now all turned to pain and suffering. However, do not let this put you down. Just remember the good times that you had together and let yourself move on in life. There are better things to come.
